About the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme: What is it? How do I apply? What documents should I prepare?

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme is a 10-year renewable multiple-entry social visit visa offered to non-Malaysians.

1. Convenience: Upon approval, MM2H holders benefit from the added convenience of being able to enter and reside in Malaysia for a period of 10 years. MM2H holders have special priority when going through customs at the airport.

3. One application covers the whole family: One application covers the whole family! An MM2H holder can bring along his/her: spouse, parents over 60, and children under 21.

4. Bring along your domestic helper: MM2H holders are entitled to bring along a domestic helper.

5. Obtain favourable mortgage loan amounts: MM2H holders can obtain relatively favourable mortgage loan amounts. As an MM2H holder, you can obtain mortgage loans up to 70% (subject to approval).

6. Tax exception on foreign sourced funds: Income remittances are tax free.

7. Children are allowed to apply to schools: Children under 21 are eligible to study in Malaysia, including top-tier international school, and free primary education in public Chinese school.

8. Run your own business or work part-time: MM2H holders are entitled to run and own businesses; applicants over 50 can apply for a part-time job in Malaysia.

9. No obligation for applicants to stay in Malaysia for any period of time

Application Process

  1. Apply to receive a Letter of Good Conduct from the relevant authority (i.e. Hong Kong Police Department)
  2. Prepare supporting documents (see list below)
  3. Submit all documents to the Immigration Department
  4. Obtain government approval for your MM2H application (approximately 6-12 months)
  5. Make an Endorsement Trip to Malaysia
  • Minimum stay:
    • Kuala Lumpur: stay for a minimum period of 3 working days
    • Penang: stay for a minimum period of 5 working days
  • Open a bank account at HSBC, Maybank or other bank
  • Make a Fixed Deposit in the amount stated below into your own Malaysian bank account:
    • For MM2H applicants above 50 years old: MYR150,000.-
    • For MM2H applicants below 50 years old: MYR300,000.-
  • Obtain medical insurance (not applicable for MM2H applicants above 50 years olde), medical report and pay visa fees

Supporting Document Checklist

You will need to submit the following documents to the Immigration Department in order to apply for the MM2H Programme:

  1. Passport
  • A notarised passport detail page of the MM2H applicant and each and every family member
  • Passport photo – blue background x 8 pieces (size requirement: 3.5cm x 5.0cm) of the MM2H applicant and each and every family member
  1. Resume / curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Listing the MM2H applicants’ education and employment background over the past 10 years
  1. Letter of Good Conduct
  • For the main applicant only
  • This can be obtained from the Hong Kong Police Department
  1. Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • A notarized copy is needed
  1. Children’s Birth Certificate (if applicable)
  • A notarized copy of your child’s birth certificate
  1. Income Proof
  • Notarised income supporting documents that confirm the MM2H applicant’s monthly income of MYR10,000 and above
  • Latest 3-6 months salary slips
  • Other documents are accepted: pension documents, dividend statement, tenancy agreement, investment statement
  • An employment letter is required
  1. Current Asset Proof
  • The MM2H applicant will need to provide a current asset proof.
  • The financial criteria varies according to the applicants’ age:
    • Below age 50: MYR500,000
    • Above age 50: MYR350,000
  • Notarised bank statement of recent 4-6 month documents, such as a fixed deposit certificate with auto-renewal status bank investment etc.
  • Bank name (bank letterhead with logo)
  • Contact details of the branch, such as address, phone and email
  • Your full name (either yours and/or your spouses for joint account cases)
  • Bank account number
  • Date of the bank statement
  • Final balance with the date of the statement
  • Currency

*All bank documents (including monthly statements and fixed deposit slips) should be stamped by the bank on each page to certify as true copies. If the bank cannot provide stamps on the documents, applicants should request for an official letter from the bank stating the MM2H applicant’s account name, account number and latest deposit balance.
