District
Wan Chai
An amalgamation of both commercial and residential living, Wan Chai has been a traditional business district in Hong Kong since colonial times embodying the essence of Hong Kong's fast-paced, high-energy lifestyle.
Planted in between Causeway Bay, Central and Admiralty, residents travel to all parts of Hong Kong with ease. However, in that stretch of Jaffe road and Lockhart Road, Wan Chai has gained legendary notoriety for its high-spirited nightlife akin to Central's Lan Kwai Fong.
Over the years, Wan Chai has undergone redevelopment efforts replacing age-old colonial quarters. The Pacific Place shopping mall has truly revitalized this entire district with several upscale apartments in its vicinity along Star Street, St. Francis Street and even Queen's Road East.
Public leisure facilities are in abundance with various swimming pools, sport stadiums and even an athletic track within this area. To the north near the harbourfront, Wan Chai is a bastion of the arts. The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (The Turtle of Wan Chai) feature high-culture events for the masses.
